Founded in 2008 by Simran Sir and led today by Pamelpreet Kaur Ma’am, Simran IAS Academy is a
mentor-led institute in Sector 36-D, Chandigarh, built for aspirants of the UPSC, HCS, HAS and PCS

From Simran Sir's First Classroom to Pamelpreet Ma'am's Academy Today
Seventeen years, two mentors, one philosophy. This is how Simran IAS Academy — recognised today
among aspirants as the best UPSC coaching in Chandigarh — grew not through advertising, but through
the students who walked out of it and into the services.
2008
The Academy Is Founded
Simran Sir, an educator and former civil services aspirant, opens a two-room institute in Sector 36-D,
Chandigarh. Twelve students enrol in the first batch. The teaching model — small rooms, one-to-one review
— is set from day one.
2009
First UPSC Selection
A student from Patiala clears the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Over the next four years, the academy
quietly builds a reputation across Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh for personal mentorship.
2013
Move to Sector 36-D
The academy shifts to its present home in Sector 36-D — two full floors, a dedicated reading room, and
interview practice rooms. Batches are formally capped at forty-five students.
2019
Pamelpreet Ma'am Joins as Academic Head
Pamelpreet Kaur, a Public Administration scholar and long-time Mains evaluator, joins the academy to lead
academics and answer-writing. The GS and optional programmes are redesigned around her mentorship
framework — and work begins on LearnByMaps, a handwritten visual revision system she conceptualises to
help students retain the syllabus faster.
2022
A Generational Handover
Simran Sir steps back from day-to-day teaching. Pamelpreet Ma’am takes over as Director & Chief Mentor.
The founding values — honesty, small batches, mentorship over marketing — remain untouched.
Today
A Quiet Institution, Still
6,400+ students trained. 312 final selections across UPSC, HCS, HAS and PCS. LearnByMaps, born inside
this academy, is now used by aspirants nationwide. A faculty of former officers and subject scholars. And the
same principle we started with: teach fewer students, teach them better.

I joined this academy in 2019 as a faculty member. I had spent a decade evaluating Mains answer scripts and knew what separated the students who cleared from the ones who did not — it was almost never intelligence. It was mentorship. Someone honest enough to tell them, week after week, exactly what needed to change.
That is what Simran Sir had been quietly doing since 2008. When he asked me to take over as Director in 2022, he had one condition: that we do not become the sort of institute that measures itself in hoardings and enrolments. We measure ourselves, still, one selection at a time.
