Founded in 2008 by Simran Sir and today led by Pamalpreet Kaur Ma’am, Simran IAS Academy is a mentor-led institute in Sector 36, Chandigarh for aspirants of the UPSC, HCS, HAS and PCS examinations.

Seventeen years, two mentors, one philosophy. This is how Simran IAS Academy grew not through advertising, but through the students who walked out of it and into the services.
2008
The academy is founded
Simran Sir, an educator and former civil services aspirant, opens a two-room institute in Sector 22, Chandigarh. Twelve students enroll in the first batch. The teaching model — small rooms, one-to-one review — is set from day one.
2011
First UPSC selection
A student from Patiala clears the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Over the next four years, the academy quietly builds a reputation across Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh for personal mentorship.
2015
Move to Sector 36
The academy shifts to its present home in Sector 36-D — two full floors, a dedicated reading room, and interview practice rooms. Batches are formally capped at forty-five students.
2019
Pamalpreet Ma'am joins as academic head
Pamalpreet Kaur, a Public Administration scholar and long-time Mains evaluator, joins the academy to lead academics and answer-writing. The GS and optional programs are re-designed around her mentorship framework.
2022
A generational handover
Simran Sir steps back from day-to-day teaching. Pamalpreet Ma’am takes over as Director & Chief Mentor. The founding values — honesty, small batches, mentorship over marketing — remain untouched.
Today
A quiet institution, still
6,400+ students trained. 312 final selections across UPSC, HCS, HAS and PCS. A faculty of former officers and subject scholars. And the same principle we started with: teach fewer students, teach them better.

joined this academy in 2019 as a faculty member. I had spent a decade evaluating Mains answer scripts and knew what separated the students who cleared from the ones who did not — it was almost never intelligence. It was mentorship. Someone honest enough to tell them, week after week, exactly what needed to change.
That is what Simran Sir had been quietly doing since 2008. When he asked me to take over as Director in 2022, he had one condition: that we do not become the sort of institute that measures itself in hoardings and enrolments. We measure ourselves, still, one selection at a time.

PhD, Delhi School of Economics. Sixteen years teaching Sociology to civil services aspirants. Writes and personally evaluates every essay script — a practice she has kept since 2011.

History · Indian Society
Formerly of Panjab University’s Department of History. Teaches Indian history through primary sources — treaties, letters, court records — rather than textbook chapters.
